Founding Story
Happy Patina was born from founder Oscar Arenas’s deep-rooted connection to leathercraft and a growing desire to counter disposable culture. Raised in Elche, Spain—home to generations of artisans—Oscar watched his grandfather craft simple leather slippers by hand, a tradition inspired by a 1981 trip to Japan. That early exposure shaped his appreciation for tactile materials and objects that tell stories over time.
After years working in tech, Oscar returned to his roots, launching CP Slippers in 2016 and, later, Happy Patina in 2024. While CP Slippers focused on minimalist footwear, Happy Patina became the expression of his philosophy: that leather, like people, should grow more beautiful with age. With no investors and a hands-on approach, Oscar built Happy Patina as a personal and enduring tribute to craftsmanship, simplicity, and the quiet power of time.

Oscar Arenas is a Spanish artisan and entrepreneur who inherited the craft of leatherworking in the Mediterranean city of Elche, where his family settled after migrating from Andalusia in the 1960s. In 1981, Oscar’s grandfather traveled to Japan, discovered the tradition of removing shoes at home, and began handcrafting minimalist, single-piece leather slippers for family and friends—a moment that left a lasting impression on young Oscar and sparked his passion for artisanal work.
After training in information technology and working in the sector for several years, Arenas returned to his roots: in 2016, he founded CP Slippers, introducing the family’s classic slippers to the world. Eight years later, he launched Happy Patina, a leather goods brand that celebrates the natural beauty of patina—wallets, cuffs, and accessories made from vegetable-tanned leather that gain character over time and come with a care kit to extend their life. The company is 100% self-funded and operates under The Hipster Code, a group that includes CP Slippers and other lifestyle ventures.
As the founder and creative director of Happy Patina, Oscar blends family tradition, sustainability, and timeless design. His mission is to offer pieces that evolve with their owners and reject disposable culture—proving that true innovation begins with noble materials and attention to every handcrafted detail.
