About

Harvest Route is agricultural commerce and logistics infrastructure built to strengthen how regional food moves from production to market. The platform connects producers, buyers, freight carriers, cold-chains, and food-system organizations within one network designed to make agricultural supply, demand, commerce, transportation, and coordination more visible and accessible.

At its core, Harvest Route addresses a challenge that exists throughout regional agriculture: supply can exist, demand can exist, and transportation capacity can exist—yet those resources are often fragmented across disconnected relationships, systems, and workflows. Harvest Route brings more of that commercial infrastructure together so producers can reach markets, buyers can discover supply, carriers can participate in agricultural logistics, and organizations can better coordinate regional food movement.

Harvest Route is beginning with Beta 1.0, focused on learning alongside commercial and institutional participants as the platform develops. Its larger vision is straightforward: stronger regional agriculture requires more than the ability to grow food. It requires infrastructure capable of helping that food find a market and move through it.

Founding Story

Harvest Route grew out of more than a decade of firsthand work in regional agriculture.

In 2013, founder Yasmeen Salaam launched Carver’s Produce with a mission to expand access to healthy food while helping farmers and food entrepreneurs reach new markets. What began as produce distribution evolved into work spanning mobile farmers markets, commercial market access, aggregation, last-mile distribution, and food-system consulting.

Over time, a larger pattern became difficult to ignore. Farmers did not simply need another place to sell food. Buyers needed better ways to identify regional supply. Smaller producers needed pathways to aggregate volume and reach larger markets. Food needed transportation. Institutions needed better coordination. And many of the people necessary to make those transactions work were operating through fragmented systems and relationships.

The problem was no longer simply how to sell produce.

It was how to build better infrastructure around the people producing, buying, and moving it.

That realization became the evolution from Carver’s Produce to Harvest Route—from participating in one part of the regional food supply chain to building infrastructure designed to connect more of it.

Harvest Route represents the next chapter of that work: applying years of experience in agricultural commerce, market development, aggregation, distribution, and supply-chain coordination to the question that increasingly defines its mission:

What happens when the infrastructure surrounding the farmer becomes as sophisticated as the farmer?

  • Yasmeen Salaam is an award-winning agribusiness founder and consultant whose work sits at the intersection of agricultural economics, technology, market access, and food-system infrastructure. For more than a decade, she has worked across the agricultural value chain—from helping farmers and emerging food brands reach new markets to developing strategies around aggregation, distribution, logistics, and regional food-system development in the United States, West Africa, and the Caribbean.

Salaam began this work through Carver’s Produce, which she founded in 2013 to expand healthy food access while creating greater market opportunities for farmers and food entrepreneurs. Through Carver’s Produce, she pioneered mobile farmers-market initiatives and helped local food and CPG brands navigate pathways into retail markets, including Atlanta-area retailers such as Azalea Fresh Market and Heritage Halal. That firsthand experience exposed a larger challenge: producers and food businesses could have strong products and willing customers, yet still struggle with the infrastructure connecting supply to viable markets.

Today, Salaam is the founder of Harvest Route, an agricultural commerce and logistics platform designed to strengthen the connections among producers, buyers, carriers, and food-system organizations across regional food economies. Her work increasingly examines a larger question shaping the future of agriculture: How do we build the infrastructure around producers that allows agricultural businesses and regional food economies to grow, compete, and remain resilient?

Her contributions to agriculture and community development were formally recognized by the Georgia House of Representatives through House Resolution 919 in 2025.

Passing the Baton: Supporting the Next Generation

There is also a need to address the correlation between food insecurity and its impact on mental and overall health in the Black community. Georgia-based entrepreneur and creator of Carver’s Produce, Yasmeen Salaam, a distributor who specializes in wholesale organic fresh produce, halal meats, and specialty food products, told Essence, “In the context of food choices, healthy food consumption not only requires money but time for purchasing, preparing, cooking, cleaning, and consuming the food. Many black families rely on go-to processed meals or recipes to limit the time and money spent on food. However, we must encourage families to learn the dietary restrictions of the individuals in your household so together you can effectively plan, shop, prep, and cook food together to create optimal health.”
