About the Brand

About

Intrepid Travel is the world's largest purpose-led adventure travel company, proven in its legal structure, supply chain philosophy, and product design principle built over 37 years.

As a certified B Corp, Intrepid operates nearly 1,000 small-group trips designed to keep money in local economies, connect travelers with real communities, and minimize environmental impact. Its not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, now a registered U.S. 501(c)(3), means every trip has a direct philanthropic dimension built in.

Intrepid is a vertically integrated company that operates all over the world. While many travel brands outsource their operations, Intrepid builds them locally, with a supply chain of over 85% locally owned businesses, never staying at chain hotels or eating at chain restaurants. That hyper-local experience is what anchors Intrepid. The more local the experience, the better it is for the community and the traveler . Both are given an equal seat at the table, because Intrepid believes the best trips are built on mutual exchange and shared experience.

Where other travel brands chase the hottest destinations, Intrepid publishes its annual Not Hot List: 10 underrated destinations with the capacity and infrastructure to welcome visitors responsibly. It's an active effort to combat overtourism and redirect traveler curiosity toward places that genuinely benefit from it. It also publishes an annual integrated report (https://www.intrepidtravel.com/en/newsroom/company-documents/annualreport), transparently reporting on everything from revenue numbers to CO2 emissions.

Founding Story

For over 30 years, Intrepid Travel has led purpose-driven adventure, not as a marketing position, but as an operating principle. In 2025, escalating geopolitical instability, accelerating climate impacts, and a broad corporate retreat from sustainability commitments defined the landscape. Intrepid Travel's response was to double down.

Intrepid launched a US$2M annual Carbon Impact Fund, scaled EV airport transfers across country offices from 39% to 74%, and partnered with REI on 28 nature-based trips where 1% of every booking funds conservation. The Intrepid Foundation became a registered U.S. 501(c)(3), strengthening its ability to influence community-led impact. The Foundation focuses on supporting local communities in shaping their own futures, allowing for grassroots-led solutions as a way for travelers to support the work of the communities they are visiting. In response to threatened $900M+ funding cuts and potential closures within the U.S. National Park System in 2025-2026, Intrepid Travel launched a "United by Nature" campaign. This initiative includes a $50,000 donation to the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), the launch of Active-ism trips (https://www.intrepidtravel.com/us/active-ism), and advocacy to protect endangered, taxpayer-funded spaces. As nations continuously turn their backs on indigenous populations, Intrepid has leaned in, working directly with, advocating for , and offering tour options that connect travelers with indigenous communities in the U.S. and Canada.

Intrepid's Uncommon Day Trips explore a less crowded side of three European cities

Intrepid Travel is launching day trips that introduce travelers to lesser-known parts of three European cities.

Starting June 1, the Uncommon Day Trips collection will be available in Barcelona, Paris and Venice, three of Europe's most visited cities. The tours will be created and led by locals and will bring visitors to parts of the city outside of the hot spots.

The itineraries were created to meet high demand for activities in these cities while promoting responsible tourism, the operator said.

Don't be a Tuluminati

There’s a far better way to experience this corner of Mexico than bouncing between beach clubs and EDM sets. Beyond the scene, Tulum and its surrounding jungle are full of quieter, wilder pleasures: swimming solo in cenotes, climbing Mayan pyramids with only a few other travelers around, ziplining without the lines, drifting down a river with no one else in sight.
