Founding Story
Lion & Light was founded by Houston-based mom and entrepreneur Shafiqah Sarfani, whose journey into business began unexpectedly after becoming a mother. With a background in healthcare and no prior plans for entrepreneurship, Shafi found her spark after the birth of her daughter—a pivotal moment that inspired her to rediscover herself beyond the role of “mama.” Determined to build something meaningful while staying close to her growing family, she turned a small passion project into a purposeful brand.
Her idea truly took shape when her son entered toddlerhood, and she struggled to find a compact, stylish diaper bag that fit her on-the-go lifestyle. Refusing to settle for bulky and uninspired designs, Shafi decided to create her own solution—one that merged functionality with fashion and reflected the modern mom’s lifestyle. What began as a simple idea soon evolved into Lion & Light: a brand built from the heart, rooted in the everyday realities of motherhood, and designed to help women feel seen, stylish, and empowered through every season of their “mama era.”

With a professional background in healthcare, Shafiqah brings a problem-solving, mom-first perspective to product development, designing around the everyday realities of parenting—from quick errands and toddler outings to travel and life on the go. Through Lion & Light, she is passionate about creating practical solutions that help women feel more like themselves in motherhood.
