About
Maçon is a family of hand-wrought, sculptural jewelry and pocket-sized sculptures. Each piece is made to order, and no two are exactly alike. Designers Hannah and Alex are inspired by ancient artifacts and the intimate and personal objects they cared for when they were children. "Emotional Functionality" and "Defenders of the Tender" are guiding phrases they often return to as the keystones of their design philosophy.
All Maçon pieces begin as a collaboration; Hannah coaxes them into three-dimensional life while Alex shapes the two-dimensional graphic world they inhabit. Each piece is carved by hand in wax and cast at a local foundry in bronze, silver or gold with the lost wax technique. Finally, they refine and polish them in their California studio.
Founding Story
Maçon was started by two creative and life partners, Hannah and Alex. They had a figure drawing class together at Rhode Island School of Design as teenagers and quickly became close friends. Hannah studied jewelry + metalsmithing while Alex went on to build a background in graphic design. Over the next decade their resilient love—despite gaps in distance and time—never waned. Eventually they found their way back to each other, moved to Paris, and married in 2023 before settling in California to start their design studio. Both Maçon and their union were born out of their desire to live and create as one.
