About the Brand

About

Pato Pato is a Spanish-first brand created to help Latino families in the U.S. raise children who feel deeply connected to their language and culture. Founded by Mexican mom and creator Lucía, the brand grew out of her own experience raising her children in Spanish in the United States and realizing how much intentionality it takes to pass on a language, a culture, and a sense of belonging when you’re raising kids away from where you grew up.

Through educational products, books, resources, and a growing online community, Pato Pato creates tools that make the language and culture part of children’s everyday lives. Its products include Lettería, a Spanish phonics game designed to make early literacy playful, and Mi primer libro de palabras con raíces náhuatl, a children’s book introducing families to everyday Spanish words with roots in Náhuatl. Alongside its products, Pato Pato’s content explores bilingual parenting, bicultural identity, Mexican culture, and the small everyday choices that help children understand where they come from. At its heart, Pato Pato is about giving families practical ways to pass down what matters—so the next generation doesn’t simply know Spanish or learn about their culture, but grows up feeling that it belongs to them.

Founding Story

As a Mexican mom raising bicultural children in the United States with an American husband, I knew from the beginning that I wanted Spanish and Mexican culture to be a central part of their childhood. But when I looked at the toys and educational products available to us, there was a gap. There were endless options designed to teach children their ABCs, build early literacy, and make learning playful in English. There were bilingual products that treated Spanish like an afterthought or a complement. In Spanish, the selection felt dramatically smaller—and products that reflected our culture with the same level of intention were even harder to find.

So I set out to build the brand I wish existed.

Pato Pato began with toys and educational products designed for Spanish-speaking and bilingual children, with the belief that these families deserve products created with them at the center rather than treated as an adaptation of an English-speaking market. As I built the brand, that mission grew beyond toys. Today, Pato Pato creates games, books, educational resources, and content centered around Spanish, Mexican culture, and the experience of raising bicultural children in the United States.

What makes the story especially personal is that I’m building these products while living the exact experience they are meant to support. I’m raising and homeschooling my own children in Spanish, teaching them to read in Spanish, and figuring out every day what it means to pass down a culture when your children are growing up somewhere different from where you did. Pato Pato is the company I went looking for as a mother…and ultimately decided to build myself.

  • Lucía is the Latina founder and creative force behind Pato Pato, a children’s brand creating culturally rooted books, toys, and educational products for bilingual and bicultural families. Raised in Mexico City, and now raising her own children in the United States, Lucía’s life has been shaped by navigating cultures, languages, and what it means to carry a sense of home across borders.

Today, she is raising and homeschooling her two children in Spanish while building Pato Pato around a mission deeply connected to her own family: making it easier for the next generation to grow up with Spanish and their cultural heritage woven naturally into everyday life. Through both Pato Pato and her online platforms, Lucía has built a growing community around bilingual parenting, Mexican culture, bicultural identity, and raising children who understand where they come from. Her work combines entrepreneurship, design, education, and storytelling to create the kinds of resources she believes bilingual and bicultural families deserve to have.
