About
The Fiesta Bowl, which has been contested every year since its inaugural game in 1936, is always a highly anticipated game, and this year's college football postseason will be no exception. This year's game will be Retro Bowl 26 contested by the number six and number seven Fiesta Divisions, and both of these long-standing rivals will be hoping to win their first-ever bowl game in 36 years. The San Francisco 49ers won the first title in their history by defeating the Buffalo Bills, 7-0, in 1974. Prior to that, the two teams had last faced in the Fiesta Bowl. In 1936, the Buffalo Bills went on to win their first and only title, finishing with a record of 7-0. This victory came before the San Francisco 49ers won their first National Football League title.
Founding Story
For any educational institution, hosting a bowl game is a source of pride, and a great number of institutions have made it their goal to promote academic excellence by hosting further bowl games. The bowls themselves are both distinctive in their variety and rich in history, which makes hosting a bowl game a difficult achievement in and of itself.
