About the Brand
About
Richard Rochon is a fragrance house founded by perfumer Richard Rochon, with two lines produced in small batches by a small team in Oakland, California. Richard doesn't follow trends. He works from his own relationship with the materials and the time he spends at the bench, and every fragrance is built to open one way and develop into a new profile over time on the wearer, who is always the star.
Richard Rochon Parfum is the premium niche line, with the tagline complex fragrance for complicated people. Its ten fragrances were developed over roughly eight years, with formulas like Burn the Ships built around saffron, clove, smoke and ambergris. It is offered in a discovery set, samples, 20ml, 50ml and 100ml sizes, and duets, so new customers can explore before committing to a full bottle.
Rochambeau by Richard Rochon is the more accessible line, made with the same care at an entry level price. It launches with Fever Dream and Second Skin and grows to nine fragrances across three releases by November. Rochambeau comes in a discovery set, 15ml and 50ml, giving people an easy way into the house. Both lines are sold direct to consumers and are expanding into select wholesale partners.
Founding Story
My story with perfume started in the south of France, in Ste. Paul de Vence where I went looking for the grave of James Baldwin. Somewhere in that trip I fell in love with fragrance. I came home to San Francisco, built my perfume organ, and started working at the bench. That afternoon eventually became one of the fragrances in the collection, Ste. Paul de Vence.
I'm obsessed with the power of scent in the human experience. A fragrance can hold a memory better than almost anything else, and I wanted to make fragrances that would punctuate the important moments in people's lives and make them feel special, unique and their best selves. I don't follow trends. I work from my own relationship with the materials, and it took about eight years to develop the ten fragrances in Richard Rochon Parfum. Each one opens one way and develops into a new profile over time on the person wearing it, because the wearer is always the star. That's where our tagline comes from, complex fragrance for complicated people.
Rochambeau came later, as an easier door into the house. I wanted more people to have that experience, so it carries the same care at a lighter price. Today both lines are made in small batches with a small team in Oakland.

-
Spend two hours at the bench with a perfumer. In a small group of up to eight, you'll learn how fragrance is built from top to base, smell the raw materials that make up a perfume, and blend a scent of your own to take home. No experience needed, just curiosity and a good nose for what you love.
-
A hands-on scent experience designed for teams, clients, and brand events. Over two hours, participants explore how fragrance shapes memory and emotion, then create their own blend. It works as a team offsite, a client appreciation event, or a launch activation, and it can be tailored to reflect your brand's story and identity.
-
Scent is one of the most powerful and least used tools in branding. I work with companies to develop a scent identity that fits who they are, from signature fragrances for spaces and products to the story behind them. Drawing on years of building my own fragrance brands, I help translate a brand's values into something people can feel and remember.

Richard Rochon is a self-taught perfumer and the founder of Richard Rochon, an independent fragrance house based in Oakland, California. His path into perfumery began in Ste. Paul de Vence, where he fell in love with fragrance while searching for the grave of James Baldwin. He came home, built his own perfume organ, and taught himself the craft one material at a time.
Richard is interested in the ways people are complex. He sees scent as one of the most powerful parts of the human experience and approaches each fragrance as a story, built to open one way and develop into a new profile over time on the person wearing it. His obsession with quality shows in the pace of his work. He spent about eight years developing the ten fragrances in Richard Rochon Parfum, and every bottle is still made in small batches.
He creates fragrances meant to mark the important moments in people's lives and help them feel special, unique and their best selves. Alongside the signature collection, he founded Rochambeau by Richard Rochon, a more accessible line made with the same care. His work is guided by the house tagline, complex fragrance for complicated people, which may explain why he relates. He's an April Taurus with a Scorpio moon and Scorpio rising, so there is a lot to unpack.
