Lakanto was founded with a simple mission: help people reduce sugar without giving up the foods they love. The brand officially launched in the United States in 2015, introducing a new approach to sweetness that combined great taste with thoughtfully sourced ingredients.

Since then, Lakanto has grown from a monk fruit sweetener company into a leader in better-for-you pantry staples, expanding its portfolio to include baking sweeteners, reduced sugars, pancake syrup, baking mixes, snacks, and more. Every product is designed to make it easier for people to enjoy everyday favorites with less sugar.

Founding Story

Lakanto began when a successful entrepreneur, with an infamously strong sweet tooth, developed diabetes. His name was Shota Saraya, and he refused to live in a world that wasn't sweet.

Alongside Dr. Murata, they developed the first modern monkfruit extraction process and by 1995 the first 100% natural monkfruit sweetener. Soon after Mr. Saraya began sharing his research and discoveries globally.

Mr Saraya's legacy is enjoying the sweetness of life while maintaining health and wellness. Thanks to him, people around the world can enjoy Lakanto's famous sweetener.
